The Voodoo Donut is an American donut chain that has stores in several cities, including Orlando.

Also, learn more about the history of this brand and which flavors are most successful among the public, check it out.

See how the Voodoo Donut started

The Voodoo Donut was founded in May 2003 by Kenneth Pogson and Richard Shannon III in Portland. A curious fact is the company's logo, which shows a version of Baron Samedi, a Haitian voodoo.

Another curiosity is that in the beginning, the store was only open at night, from 10 pm to 10 am.

Thus, the main reason was to serve musicians and other people who worked at night, or even who just wanted something to eat out of hours.

In April 2011, the place was closed until June, in order to carry out some renovations, a larger space for the kitchen area.

For this, the owners bought the property next door, which was once a nightclub.

In August of the same year, the Voodoo Donut created a special box for the Portland Bridge Festival with 3,880 donuts, according to NBC News, the largest box of donuts in the world.

Business expansion and also a tragedy

Also in 2011, the store partnered with the brewery Rogue Ales. The goal was to turn the flavors of their donuts into bottled beers.

So they chose three options:

  • Bacon Maple Ale and Chocolate;
  • Peanut butter;
  • Banana Ale.

That same year, the LA Times declared the Voodoo Donut as an international tourist attraction.

It was tradition to have eating contests in stores.

However, after a man suffocated while trying to consume an entire donut the size of a cake, this type of event was eventually put on hold.

Discover the brand's delicious donuts

The Voodoo Donut has more than 100 varieties of flavors.

By the way, one of its most famous is the Portland Creme donut, a tribute to the city where it all began and where the company's headquarters are located.

Therefore, in December 2008, the mayor at the time declared that it would be the “Official Donut of the City”.

The first donut released by them, however, is called VooDoo Doll and is one of the ones that most attract the public's attention, since it has the shape of a doll, that is, it is not round like the others.

It is filled with raspberry jam and covered in chocolate. Additionally, he has a pretzel stake driven right through the middle of his chest.

In this way, it is the highlight of the brand and since then it has been the most famous candy in Voodoo Doughnut.
