Bubba Gump Orlando – Forrest Gump's Restaurant

One of the things we love to do in Orlando, besides the parks, is eating in good places! And how about a delicious place to eat? Today we are going to talk about Bubba Gump, one of the citywalk restaurants most famous and delicious in town!

Have you watched the movie Forrest Gump? The one with the iconic Tom Hanks the storyteller?

Well, this hammock was inspired by the movie, released in 1994.

The restaurant was also founded in 94, but only opened, in fact, two years later. In 2015, it started to have franchises all over the world.

There are 40 Bubba Gum Shrimp Co. restaurants, more than half of which are in the United States. Even in Florida.

The first Bubba Gump appeared on the Santa Monica Pier, California, in 1996. And since then it has been recognized worldwide.

And, just think, for you who are in Orlando, you won't even have to look so hard for it, since it's in the Universal CityWalk, where the Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure parks are located.

Bubba Gump restaurant and the movie

As we said earlier, the inspiration for the Bubba Gump restaurant was the movie “Forrest Gump”.

The relationship with the production, however, is based on a specific plot involving Forrest (Tom Hanks) and a US Army recruit, nicknamed “Bubba”.

The character Bubba then convinces Forrest to join a shrimp business with him after they leave the military.

Thus, Bubba Gump was born, in honor of the two characters from the feature film. It's even the name of the restaurant in the movie. Amazing, huh?

Food and Decoration

As the name implies, Bubba Gump Shrimp is a chain of restaurants that offers mainly shrimp dishes.

There are several types and sizes of meals, so you can choose what suits you best.

The decoration of the place is all thought of Forrest Gump, so for lovers of the feature it is more than sensational to see so many identical things. All designed to create a pleasant and impressive atmosphere

The environment, in turn, has a somewhat dark air, something nocturnal, you know? But it's pretty cool, all the same. So enjoy every little detail.

And look how awesome: if you need a waiter's attention, just lift a sign written Stop, Forrest, stop! (Stop, Forrest, stop!).

If you do not want to be attended to at that moment, just use the sign Run, Forrest, run! (Run, Forrest, run!).

Oh, and there's another cool reference to the movie.

The bench, which Forrest sits on to tell the stories, at a bus stop, is also present in the restaurant. You can sit there and pretend you're him. Top, huh?

Prices vary a lot, as in most places, so it depends on your taste and how much you want to spend. There are desserts, too, that make your mouth water, as well as the drinks.

For example, appetizers cost between US$5.99 and US$19.99. But what we recommend most is the Shrimper's Heaven which costs $22.99. But as you can see in the photo above, it is more than enough for 3, 4 people!

About queues, well, this is a certain “problem”.

As it is a well-known and requested restaurant, the waiting time is quite high. Besides, it's on CityWalk, right, right at the exit of the parks, which greatly influences demand.

Therefore, be aware that it will take some time to be attended to, which can exceed an hour of waiting (depending on the season and day). However, afterwards, just enjoy!

As we have already mentioned, Bubba Gump is located in CityWalk, which is basically a “meeting” of exits and entrances between Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure parks.

That way, it's pretty ′′ easy ′′ to be found. In fact, it is the first restaurant when you arrive at Citywalk and look to your left (after leaving the treadmill).

If you feel more comfortable, always walk with a map to speed things up. However, there is no error. You'll recognize it as soon as you see it.

The restaurant is numbered 9, on the right side of the CityWalk. Right next to Bob Marley – A Tribute to Freedom (number 2).
