The Ride Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges, as the name already indicates, is inspired by the Popeye cartoon, which marked generations.

The attraction, which is located in the Islands of Adventure park, opened to the public in May 1999, almost 20 years ago.

Popeye appeared in comics in 1929 and gained animation in the 1950s, when he was adapted into a series of short films. In 1980, the legendary Robin Williams played the main character in the live-action film.

Who doesn't link spinach to Popeye? In the drawing, when he ingests the food, he becomes stronger, more confident and prepared for everything that comes ahead. In fact, he is always attentive to the advances of Brutus (or Bluto), his greatest enemy, in relation to his girlfriend, Olívia Palito.

The attraction at Islands of Adventure therefore makes reference to this situation.

Bluto has run off with Olivia and Popeye needs to go after his girl. For this, he will have your help to save his girlfriend.

Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges is classified as a raft ride, that is, a “raft ride”. Basically, there's water until you say enough, lol.

It's the kind of attraction that wets, but wets a lot!

Were you curious? Come see how it is!

How is Popeye & Bluto?s Bilge-Rat Barges

It consists of a wild river, practically, let's say. In addition, there are many unforeseen events along the way.

So the question, then, is what visitors will find until they reach the end of the route.

Therefore, they will be instructed to sit in a boat, one of those round ones, which holds up to twelve people.

In the center of this boat, is the place where you can store your belongings, such as your cell phone, backpacks and the like. However, the advice is to go with nothing, just the clothes on your back and look there, lol.

Because it is a water attraction, be aware that you will come out soaking wet. Yes, that's a lot of water, my friend!

Everywhere you look, there are drops, “cannons” and puddles. It is worth remembering that it is also important to preferably wear flip flops, as water accumulates on the floor. And ALWAYS take an extra change of clothes.

That said, people's mission, therefore, is to "assist" Popeye in the search for Olivia. During the trip, some of the “spectators”, who are outside the bravo river, on the bridges, will be at the ready with water cannons, aiming to hit those who are having fun. Another way to take a real bath!

The attraction has speed, although relatively little, adventure and lots of fun! Depending on where you sit, it will be soaked more than anything, lol. It's no use dodging or protecting yourself, time or another you'll get water in your face.

Almost at the end of the path, the boat will go up, through some rails, kind of indicating that it is at the end. But, that's where the best part comes in! After the ascent, the boat will descend with everything, at “a thousand per hour”, with the help of the current, taking visitors to the end of the tour.

More Details of Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges

Well, in terms of duration, it's only five minutes of adventure. Very little, right? Especially considering the time lost in queues.

Yes, the queues are HUGE, which makes it take A LONG time to get your turn, no kidding.

You can “mofar” and, even so, you will be far away.

Therefore, know that, to have fun, it is almost certain to lose a few minutes or even hours waiting.

When it comes to putting together the itinerary of the most desired attractions, organize them based on the queues, and this will help you a lot when deciding priorities and when to go or not.

All ages are invited to venture into the attraction. However, there are restrictions on height.

Only children with more than 1.07 meters will be able to go.

One thing is for sure: there is no way to get dry.

So, stay tuned for the weather on the day you go to the park. In winter, depending on, the attraction is closed, as it is impractical.

In other seasons, it is not impossible to catch a rainy or cold day. Therefore, it is not recommended to go when it is not warm.

You can also take precautions when using raincoats, for example.

They protect a lot from unwanted water during the ride.

But seriously, the coolest part of all is getting wet!

Don't let this slip by. It's really cool to go without worrying, so plan well to make the most of it.

Both Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges and Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls, another very wet attraction, require that spare bag.

That is, take a shirt, shorts or pants, exhaust, as it will be necessary!

Before everything, you can see our tips on how to enjoy Islands of Adventure during a day.

In the post, we talk about our favorite experiences and attractions, as well as places to have lunch, snacks and dinner.

The attraction is located in the Toon Lagoon area, which also “homes” to the Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls and Me Ship, the Olive, a children's playground.

Still in this space, outside the two attractions mentioned above, you will find a giant dryer, which you can run through after it is completely wet!

The “bad” part is that it's not free :(. Well, to use it, you'll have to shell out something around US$5, and it can be used by four people at most.

On the map below, it is possible to identify the Toon Lagoon area, which is to the left of the park, colored blue, between Marvel Super Hero Island and the Skull Island: Reign of Kong. Look:

For those going to Islands of Adventure only, it's near the main entrance. However, if you come from the Harry Potter, after getting off the Hogwarts Express, it is a little further away.

Therefore, it is interesting to separate the attractions well by areas. “Kill” everything at once from one end and then make stops throughout the park. This saves time and energy, obviously.

Is it worth going to the Attraction?

So this is a question with multiple answers hahaha. And one of them, however, has to do with your disposition.

As mentioned above, the attraction has kilometric queues, which takes a long time to wait. Therefore, if it is not your priority, if you are not interested, it is better not to “waste” hours there. Go elsewhere and enjoy the park!

Also taking into account the fact that it gets wet, many people prefer not to take the risk, not least because Orlando is not hot all the time.

That is, for some, it is a disadvantage to go on such a walk and get soaked all over, in addition to having to change clothes afterwards and such.

If you don't mind, go, yes, but try to go in the morning, at the very beginning of the day in the park, as this is more time you get to dry off – in case you don't want to spend money going to the giant dryer or forget to pack extra clothes.

The later you leave, the more difficult it will be to get there, largely because of the queues that always grow towards the end of the day.

Individuals who get seasick easily may also not enjoy the attraction very much, as, as said, it is a wild river, with rapids and a boat spin…

So, know what you're "getting into".

Otherwise, in our opinion, it's definitely worth going to Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges.

In addition to being a unique experience, as there are few attractions of this type, it positively surprises you how light the journey can be, make you laugh in the faces of other colleagues and, of course, get you wet.
