The Boneyard is an attraction in Animal kingdom made especially for children. Therefore, it is a mix of excavation looking for fossils and playground.

What is The Boneyard?

The the boneyard is a playground for children up to 10 years old located in Animal Kingdom. By the way, he is one of the Disney parks that are part of the complex in Orlando.

This attraction opened alongside the park and the Dinoland area in April 1998, as well as the dinosaur attraction.

Since then, several attractions have changed, others have entered the dinosaur area, but the the boneyard remains and enchants generations with its mysteries.

The theme of boneyard, as the name implies, is an excavation site to look for dinosaur fossils, while in the environment the decoration is to look real. Thus, there are scaffoldings that become jungle gyms and transport tubes that are slides.

Location

It stays inside the Magic Kingdom from the Dinoland USA area, as soon as you enter this part of the park, the attraction is on the left side.

Is The Boneyard attraction good for children?

The the boneyard is one of animal kingdom attractions exclusively for children, therefore, it is a great attraction for children.

In fact, they even allow adults of that age to enter, and enjoy the history and excavation, however, the toy part is no longer so attractive for the older ones.

The story behind the attraction is told through the Dino Institute. According to them, they found a skeleton of Tyrannosaurus rex at the excavation site, where it is now known as the boneyard. Then, two years later, in 1949, it became a museum.

Thus, according to them, it is still possible to witness incredible discoveries in that region, in addition to seeing paleontologists' field notes. In addition, the little ones will experience there:

  • the discovery of the original skeleton with the old signature from 1947;
  • how our view of dinosaurs has changed over the years;
  • footprints of some species, when children step on them, they make animal sounds;
  • skulls of two specimens that are connected and possibly died in combat;
  • after the bridge, a huge mammoth.

In short, it is a playful, charming and engaging area. Much because of the story that the guides tell.

Finally, to top it all off, there's a pirate radio station operated by two interns from the Dino Institute that talks about science, with those designed more for adults, as well as playing dinosaur-themed music.

The the boneyard it is divided into two areas, in total there are three floors of lots of fun, one is a real playground while the other is an area intended for excavation for the little paleontologists.

The area has a complete playground, there are numerous attractions on the theme, such as:

  • slides;
  • ropes;
  • ramps;
  • caves;
  • toboggan run;
  • tunnels, including, some of them lead to mysterious places.

Another positive point is that parents also gain the fun of resting in the shade while their children burn off energy. Incidentally, the place is all closed and there is no way for children to leave unaccompanied.

Is The Boneyard really worth visiting?

Definitely worth knowing the boneyard, mainly because it deviates from the commonplace that parks offer, such as mechanized attractions, with speed or characters.

At that moment, when they listen to the story, they develop what is ludic and that is very important for them. Not to mention that they love this kind of activity of messing with earth and sand.
