Kumba: Rollercoaster from Busch Gardens

We already know that Busch Gardens has the best roller coasters in Orlando, right? Now you can learn a little more about Kumba!

First, I will correct myself. In fact, the park is in Tampa. But, as it is very close to Orlando (about 1h30), I consider it to be right there.

The theme of Busch gardens refers to an African safari. Therefore, the name of the attraction refers to the roar of a lion, in one of the native languages of the continent.

In addition, adventurers who board the roller coaster say they can hear this sound with the movement of the cart! Cool huh?!

Features of Kumba

In 1993, when it opened, the title of the biggest loop in the world belonged to Kumba. Currently, The Incredible Hulk Coaster (Hulk roller coaster) is the one who owns the prize.

Still, the attraction remains on the list of the biggest loops in the world. Through a speed of 97 kilometers per hour, you will be inverted and rotated several times. The feeling is indescribable!

For the same reason, the minimum height to be able to enjoy the attraction is 1.37 meters.

Therefore, Kumba is not considered a roller coaster for the whole family.

Despite this, Kumba lasts for just under 3 minutes.

It may seem little, but I guarantee that the adrenaline is huge! There are many loops, turns and inversions in sequence.

Kumba is in the Congo area, right next to the Congo River Rapids.

It is easy to spot as you will be able to see large bluish trails.

Locker

As with most roller coasters at Busch Gardens, backpacks are not allowed in Kumba.

This is a safety measure as the attraction speed is high and you may lose some belongings.

As a solution, you can rent a closet, the famous ?locker?.

There are some plans that include renting for certain periods and even for the whole day.

How is the Kumba queue?

As with the lines at Orlando's extreme attractions, you'll have to wait a long time to enjoy Kumba.

This is normal, especially in high season (December to February and June to September) and in the afternoon.

So there are some strategies so you can spend less time in line. One of them is preferring to visit the ride in the morning or close to park closing time.

Like the other attractions at Busch Gardens, Kumba does not have a single rider.

Quick Queue

The skip-the-line ticket is the main way for you to optimize your queue time. As a result, you will be able to enjoy several attractions in a short time.

unlike the FastPass +, from Disney, the Quick Queue part of the entrance fee to the park must be paid. We explain more about how it works in this post.

How is the Kumba route?

The tour starts with a slow climb. Soon after, the speed of the cart increases and the first fall from the track occurs.

Then you already understand the reason for the title in 1993! A large loop is performed and followed by several inversions and turns. This loop even goes through the track of the same roller coaster.

The route also has underground passages through tunnels. In one, you'll pass under visitors strolling through Busch Gardens.

All along the way, you will be able to enjoy the nature of Busch Gardens. Especially at the end, when the speed is reduced so that new crew members can enter the carts.

Some trees and shrubs from the African region are part of the scenery! Without a doubt, this is a must-visit attraction at Busch Gardens!

Get your Parks Tickets at a Discount

Many people leave to buy their tickets when they arrive in Orlando or even on park day.

We absolutely do not recommend that you do this for a number of reasons, such as:

If you buy tickets on the spot, you won't be able to book your park days in advance at the risk of not even being able to enter a park on a given day.

You will lose valuable park minutes in line to buy your tickets.

AND MOSTLY, you will pay more because tickets at the box office are more expensive than buying in advance!

Access our ticket website to buy your tickets or request a free consultation to find out exactly which tickets are the best to buy.
